OXYCARE LTD offers a Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment facility, using an EU-approved medical device, (chamber) – conforming to international standards, and providing appropriate, internationally-accepted, treatment for approved medical conditions.

When a patient is referred by the treating consultant, they undergo a pre-assessment with our on-site physician to determine if they are medically capable of undergoing the treatment.

Our chamber is a CE certified medical device with a requisite ante-chamber that allows the doctor to enter the chamber while the chamber is pressurized in the case of a medical emergency.

Conditions Suitable For Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment

Enhancement of healing in diabetic foot ulcers, and other suitable ischaemic (oxygen-starved) wounds

Healing of heat burns
Acute Sensorineural Hearing Loss (Sudden deafness)
Crush injuries and other oxygen-deficient injuries
Gas gangrene (rare tissue infection)
Other rare infections (such as Actinomycosis)
Carbon monoxide poisoning
Can be used for delayed union of bones*
Enhanced healing following sports or other injuries
Skin grafts and flaps following Plastic Surgery
Radiation injury (aftermath of radiotherapy for cancer treatment – affecting the jaw [mandible] or other areas)
Osteomyelitis (infection in bone – not responding to normal treatments)

Intracranial (brain) abscesses.

Necrotizing Fasciitis (another rare infection of deep tissue)
Air or gas embolism – which can occur after injuries or operations
Cyanide poisoning
Can be used for Avascular necrosis of the hip joint*

What Does Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment Do?

The major effects of blood oxygen changes during Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment (HBOT) include:

Hyperoxia

Higher Oxygen level – the most important effect – providing more oxygen to healing tissues.

Oedema Reduction

Vasoconstriction reduces oedema (swelling) of the tissues.

Antibacterial
  • Accelerates “oxidative burst”
  • Supports phagocytosis (immune cell destruction of bacteria)
  • Antibiotic effect on anaerobes (bacteria that do not actually require oxygen and are damaged by it)
Anti-toxic
  • Neutralizing the toxin of Clostridial gas gangrene
  • Substitute Carbon Monoxide gas in Carbon Monoxide

Referral from treating consultant

Suitable patients are usually referred to Oxycare from their treating consultant.

Initial assessment

An initial assessment is undertaken to determine if you are medically capable of undergoing Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and if HBOT is a suitable treatment.

Prescription

The number of treatment sessions you require is determined and prescribed by the treating physician.

Continuous assessment

Before you undergo treatment your condition will be assessed. Your condition will also be continuously assessed pre and post each treatment session.
